Latest news – October 2012

Our title may be 5th Addlestone but we are 1st in Surrey, with our Scout Troop winning the Surrey Scouts cooking competition this month; congratulations to all the Scouts for making it such a memorable day and for their 100% turnout. This rounded off a busy summer for all the sections.

The Beavers have had a fun day at our neighbouring group’s headquarters, a sleepover at the County campsite in the Surrey Hills and have been to the County Beavers gathering, Bazzaz, at the Cranleigh showground.

The Cubs have camped on the Isle of Wight and at Farnham, came third in the District fishing competition and are looking forward to a District Cubs fun day at Birchmere.

As well as their success at the County cooking competition, the Scouts have taken part in cardboard rafting and canoeing on the River Wey, are planning a wide game at Bourne Copse, dragon boating on the Thames and climbing at Guildford.

All the sections are continuing with their badge work. Congratulations to Kailah P on gaining her Chief Scout’s Silver Award, the highest award available in the Cub Scout Section.

The calendar for 2012 is already full of exciting activities. The Beavers are looking forward to a family ramble and in the summer to a huge County event, Bazzaz, when all the Beavers in Surrey will be getting together for a day packed full of fun. The Cubs have Big Splash at Woking swimming pool, and cooking and football competitions coming up. Our Scouts will be having a winter sleepover at another Scout HQ, and, if the sky is clear, perhaps some star gazing, closely followed by more caving with the County caving team.
